A 68-year-old Canadian man named Pierre-Paul Thomas was born legally blind . . . he could barely make out shapes, and only saw things in grey.
Then, two years ago, he fell down the stairs of his apartment complex and fractured several bones in his face, including the ones around his eyes. Doctors repaired the broken bones, and Pierre assumed that would be the end of it.
But during a follow-up visit a few months later, a plastic surgeon was looking at scars on his scalp and asked matter-of-factly if he wanted them to fix his EYES too.
Pierre was born with three different eye problems, two of which couldn't be fixed. But what the surgeons COULD do was remove cataracts from both eyes. Both surgeries were a success, and now . . . 68 years into his life . . . Pierre can finally see.
Due to his other issues, he'll never have PERFECT vision, but it's changed his life. And two years later, he says he feels like a child, because everything he sees is new to him.
He also jokes that he's focused on living until he's 150 to make up for lost time.
